Wildplassen

Every time when I pass this wall I think: Really? Ever? Or maybe just not now? Or not here?

In The Netherlands you will get a substantial fine when you pee in a public space*. It is called 'wildplassen' and if you translate that literally it says 'wild peeing'. My boys think it is hilarious and would love to pee wildly. Funny thing is, in India they can. Driving around Bangalore it is a very common sight to see men peeing against a wall along the road. I have even seen people doing a no.2 along the road side (and I don't mean hiding away in the bushes).
I think it is disgusting and apparently more people do, because signs like above appear in more and more places. Not sure if they have any effect.

Next thing that should be addressed is the spitting (for instance from bus windows, nearly missing my car) and the horrible, horrible act of cleaning noses and clearing throats by loudly snorting and scraping and spitting out whatever came up. YAK!!!!

Getting back to the peeing, there is one thing that intrigues me: some men pee while squatting; how does that work without getting things caught in the zipper or aiming for the sky and up their nose? Maybe I should ask my boys ;-)

WAT IS WILDPLASSEN EN WELKE BOETE KRIJG JE ERVOOR?

Wildplassen is het plassen in het openbaar, op een plaats die daar niet voor bedoeld is. Bijvoorbeeld tegen een boom, een lantaarnpaal of in een portiek. Dit geeft veel overlast, met name vanwege de stank. Vaak wordt wildplassen via de APV (algemene plaatselijke verordening) verboden en daarom krijg je er een boete voor. Buiten de bebouwde kom is wildplassen vaak niet strafbaar, afhankelijk van de plaatselijke verordeningen die zich vaak tot de bebouwde kom beperken. Als je wordt betrapt op wildplassen, kost je dat €130,-. Het boetebedrag van dit moment kun je vinden in de boetebase van het openbaar ministerie.

Translation:
Wildplassen is the act of peeing in public, in a place not designed/designated for it. For instance against a tree, a lamppost or in a doorway. This causes a nuisance, mainly because of the smell. Often wildplassen is prohibited by local law and will be fined. Outside the build up areas it is often not prohibited. When you get caught you will be fined 130,= Euro.
